This calculator is designed to allow you to calculate CO2 emissions from a combination of flights, driving, and rail. The categories are organised around the factors most significant to carbon footprint e.g. distance for vehicles.

You will also be able to compare the impact of reducing travel or changing the mix of travel.

Factors / Assumptions

Short-haul air travel = 0.13 kgCO2 / per passenger, per KM
Long-haul air travel = 0.11 kgCO2 / per passenger, per KM
Petrol Car = 0.337 kgCO2 / per mile
Diesel Car = 0.319 kgCO2 / per mile
Hybrid Car = 0.203 kgCO2 / per mile
Rail = 0.06 kg CO2 / per passenger, per KM

Air travel

Number of short-haul flight segments (return flight = 2 segments)
Number of medium-haul flight segments (return flight = 2 segments)
Number of long-haul flight segments (return flight = 2 segments)

or

Total short-haul distance flown (segments less than 3,000km (1,875 miles) each)  KM
 Miles
Total long-haul distance flown (segments >3,000km (1,875 miles) each)  KM
 Miles

Cars

The mix of a corporate fleet is often extremely varied. To enable you to get a broad view, use
the following to 'band' by number of vehicles/distance traveled: e.g. you might have 100 cars
that do an average of 12k miles; 500 cars that do an average of 20k miles etc. You can add up
to 10 'bands' in each fuel type section.
Petrol Number of cars Av. annual mileage Emissions
(kgCO2 / mile)

Diesel Number of cars Av. annual mileage Emissions
(kgCO2 / mile)

Hybrid Number of cars Av. annual mileage Emissions
(kgCO2 / mile)

Rail travel

Total rail distance  KM
 Miles
