TOP TIPS
Read on for some basic tips on how to cut your CO2 emissions and reduce your businesses impact on global warming:
Whatever your type of business, by far the largest proportion of your emissions will be due to:
Travel:
Some business events (like conferences) flights and driving can account for 90% of emissions
Top Tip: One immediate way to cut emissions is to:
- reduce face to face meetings to necessary ones only, and look at alternatives like audio conferences and document sharing through WebEx.
Web-based Communications
Although an essential part of business, meetings take up the majority of time in the average business person's day. Travelling to and from meetings can be a big time waster and causes environmental pollution. Web-based communication tools can facilitate online meetings and there are increasingly flexible and interactive packages on the market today. You can instantly collaborate, share ideas, and make sales presentations online to anyone, anywhere all from the comfort of your desk. All you need is a telephone and access to the internet.
Inevitably, as a business, you’ll still have to make some journeys by car, train and plane. Using our carbon calculator you can work out how much CO2 you produce and offset or ‘neutralise’ these gases by investing in one of The CarbonNeutral Company’s climate change projects. Energy:
The CO2 produced through energy can be huge for large industrial sites, but even for the smallest businesses heating, lighting and air-conditioning typically accounts for 50% of your emissions.
Top Tip:
One immediate way to cut emissions is to:
- switch to renewable energy
Renewable Power:
If we are going to tackle climate change successfully companies and individuals need to reduce their emissions as far as possible before turning to offset. One easy way to do that if you live or operate in the UK is to switch your electricity supply to one that comes from a renewable source. This means electricity generated from wind, hydro-power. rather than coal, oil or gas. Often it will not cost any more than you are currently paying for your electricity and it will mean you don’t have to offset as many emissions to become CarbonNeutral.
In the UK individuals and businesses can choose their electricity supplier, so wherever you live in the country you can have your home or business supplied by clean energy.
To switch to green electricity now or to find out more, simply click on the links below.
In some countries, there are also tax breaks for using renewable energy sources. In the UK, businesses which can demonstrate they are using renewable energy are also subject to a reduction in their Climate Change Levy payments. |
