Post Danmark customers can choose environmentally friendly options when sending their letters and parcels by selecting a Mail with Care product. Mail with Care products compensate for the CO2 produced when shipping letters and parcels by offsetting the equivalent amount of greenhouse gas emissions through renewable energy projects in China, India and Peru.

In cooperation with The CarbonNeutral Company, Post Danmark has selected a portfolio of high quality carbon credits from three renewable energy projects.  A large portion of the chosen credits and certified to the requirements of the Gold Standard: an international certification scheme for premium carbon credits, which ensures that projects optimise CO2 reductions while promoting sustainable development.

How carbon offsetting works

Carbon credits are generated by projects located around the world which use a variety of technologies to provide cleaner alternatives to traditional fossil fuel powered energy.  The project can only produce carbon credits for offsetting if it can prove the case for 'additionality'.  This means that the project developer must demonstrate that it cannot produce an attractive enough rate of return for investors without the additional revenue stream provided by the sale of carbon credits.  Buyers of carbon credits provide vital financial support to make the projects commercially viable and enable the transfer and development of clean technologies throughout the world.
