Simmons & Simmons is a world class international law firm, with offices in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. When they first started to take a corporate interest in climate change, they were struck by how many of their employees were already deeply invested in reducing their own carbon footprints.

They knew that their company-wide emissions reduction plan would be wholeheartedly embraced. And it was. By staff members, by clients and by national and trade media. Simmons & Simmons made a tremendous impact in one of the most challenging courts of all: the court of public opinion.

How The CarbonNeutral Company helped:

• We conducted a greenhouse gas assessment of Simmons & Simmons operations across all of its global offices, including energy, business travel, staff commuting, third party deliveries and waste.
• We helped Simmons & Simmons develop a long-term plan to substantially reduce emissions by reducing energy consumption by 27% over 4 years; reducing unnecessary international air travel and increasing the flexibility for home-working.
• We provided high quality carbon offsets from renewable energy projects in India and energy efficiency projects in Jamaica to offset all remaining company emissions to net zero.

When I first became aware that this issue was surfacing, I started to talk to people about it. Two things struck me. First, how passionately some of our people feel about climate change: many of our employees already privately offset their carbon emissions. Second, how many people cared about what we did as a business. This level of interest has made the decision to go CarbonNeutral® much easier, because a key element of that decision has been to ensure that we continue to reduce our carbon footprint.
