143 UK & International forestry sites have been contracted. The majority of our contracts with planting partners are over 99 years – an appropriate time for forests to mature and soak up significant levels of carbon - and a subset of these are monitored annually within an ongoing rolling programme. Of the 143 projects, 5 are undertaking remedial action or have been declared as failed and the shortfall made up with alternative carbon schemes. In general, we don’t write off carbon projects until we know definitively through independent third party assessment and monitoring that they have failed to deliver the projected carbon sequestration – by encouraging projects to address issues, we promote learning, support local communities, and build capacity in carbon management.

The affected area is being replanted in 2008 in accordance with the original contract. Account will be taken of this in the carbon sequestration models for the site. |

|
2007 monitoring visit determined that site is not being managed according to original contract. Specifically deer and bracken control. |
Planting partner has agreed to take remedial action. This will be monitored closely over the coming years.

WSD-Karnataka
|
Original planting damaged as a result of drought in 2003. Some re-planting has taken place since then. |
Independent monitoring assessment of the project has been carried out to determine success rate. The report is being finalised and will be made available shortly (April 2008)

Wyvis Croft
|
In 2007 we were notified that the forest management plan in original contract had not been observed by new land owner. |
The total contracted carbon has been written off and the shortfall will be replaced in accordance with the guarantee of The CarbonNeutral Company. |
Barabhaig
|
Monitoring in 2006 indicated damage to tree stock and that the site has not been maintained according to original contract. |
The land owner has confirmed that remedial action will take place during 2008. This will be monitored closely over the coming years. |
