Jem Porcaro of The CarbonNeutral Company has been elected by ICROA members as Chair of the International Carbon Reduction and Offset Alliance which now sits within the International Emissions Trading Association (IETA). In his capacity as Chair, Jem will take the lead on determining the strategic direction of ICROA and the technical development of the Code of Best Practice. He will share the chair responsibilities with another ICROA member.

Jem Porcaro works as Senior Vice President of Strategic Development for The CarbonNeutral Company, and has over 10 years of experience in energy and environmental management and policy. His career includes a substantial period as energy analyst with the Sustainable Energy Programme at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the U.N.’s largest source of grant assistance. At UNDP, Jem was responsible for advising governments on sustainable energy technologies and policy and helping manage UNDP’s $2.5 billion energy project portfolio. Prior to UNDP, Jem worked as an environmental engineer advising large corporate clients, including several Fortune 500 companies, on U.S. environmental policy and regulation.

The International Carbon Reduction and Offset Alliance (ICROA) is a not-for-profit association that provides leadership and a unified voice to ensure rigorous industry standards within the voluntary carbon market. ICROA members currently serve thousands of businesses and hundreds of thousands of individuals. All member organisations adhere to a reduce-and-offset strategy to manage carbon emissions, and comply with and publicly report against the ICROA Code of Best Practice. The ICROA Code was developed by an international industry alliance to establish best practices in carbon management, including identifying high-quality voluntary offset standards/certification schemes and defining requirements for how members provide carbon footprinting services and greenhouse gas reduction advice.
