Our commitment
In unison with our clients we are actively engaged in addressing one of the most important challenges of our times – climate change. In the execution of our business, we take responsibility for our own impact on the environment, as well as for our impact on the communities and individuals in our supply chain: The CarbonNeutral Company is itself a CarbonNeutral® company.
As a global company, we operate in compliance with all relevant national, regional and international regulatory requirements. Our aim is to go beyond mere compliance, and to continuously improve our stewardship of the environment and people in our influence. Therefore, as part of our day-to-day operations, we identify and manage those issues that have a material impact on the environmental, social and economic systems upon which our business’ success is dependent.
Our Corporate Responsibility programme
This covers three key areas that are material to the way we run and conduct our business and will have the greatest positive impact on the wider socio-economic environment:
1. Stakeholder engagement on climate change;
2. Resource usage and emissions from offices and operations; and
3. Transparency and integrity of our business transactions.
Past performance, future commitments and targets
Our plans, commitments & targets for 2009 were:
1. Stakeholder engagement on climate change
- Provide the European co-chair to ICROA, preparing for third party verification of ICROA´s Code of Best Practice. Click here for further information on the ICROA Code of Best Practice
- Continue involvement in the formation of industry standards based on our experience with the CarbonNeutral® Protocol
- Conduct annual review of the CarbonNeutral® Protocol
2. Resource usage and emissions from offices and operations
- Expand CarbonNeutral® company status to include deliveries, publications and events
- Implement a greenhouse gas inventory aligned with the EPA Climate Leaders programme, and develop a comprehensive management strategy to reduce emissions
- Establish a preferred supplier programme to focus on IT equipment and the procurement and approval of business travel
- Work to ISO14001 standards across the business
- Subscribe to and integrate a web-conference system to minimise business travel within our office portfolio and to client sites
3. Transparency and integrity of business transactions
- Work towards 5th independent external verification of our compliance to the CarbonNeutral® Protocol
- Continue programme to independently review and report on offset projects, conducted by members of the Independent Advisory Group (2 forestry and 2 technology projects)
- Create at least one company VCS registry account for issuance
Management responsibility
The accountability for our corporate responsibility policies and programmes are vested with the Senior Executives of The CarbonNeutral Company who are accountable to The CarbonNeutral Company Board of Directors through the Executive Chairman for its development and implementation.

Our progress is communicated annually by posting an update on our website during quarter 1 of our financial year calendar.
