Carbon Offset Projects
Our worldwide Carbon offset projects include clean energy technology programmes such as solar power projects in Sri Lanka, hydro power in Bulgaria as well as UK and international forestry. An example project is noted below; see more on our worldwide carbon offset project locations

Hydropower, Bulgaria
| One of The CarbonNeutral Company’s hydro power projects is located on the Pirinska Bistritsa River, near the village of Katuntsi in the foothills of the Pirin Mountains in South West Bulgaria. |
This hydro-power scheme uses ‘run-of-river’ technology which means that no dams, which can have negative environmental impacts, are needed. It will produce between 12 and 14 GWh of renewable electricity annually and is forecast to reduce emissions of greenhouse gas by as much as 10,000 to 13,000 tCO2 per year by reducing the amount of coal burned.
The economic problems faced by Bulgaria have had an impact on this region with unemployment rates in 2004 reported at 21%. As well as the obvious environmental benefits, the project will also mean 6 permanent local jobs in addition to employment during the construction phase.
The project is to be developed within the state forestry reserve which extends over some 27,000 hectares. The reserve contains both broad-leaved and coniferous tree species as well as Mediterranean plants and animals that also inhabit the area.
