The Westin’s Whistler Resort and Spa is located in one of the most spectacular settings on earth. Understandably, people there take protecting the environment very seriously.
The Westin shared their concern – and their desire to make a positive impact on the environment. Using energy and water efficiently was a great place to start, but corporate management went much deeper with a groundbreaking comprehensive programme of education and offsets.
How The CarbonNeutral Company helped:
- We devised a “Carbon Footprint Programme”, inviting individual guests to reduce energy usage by opting out of a housekeeping service in the guest rooms during their stay.
- We developed a CarbonNeutral® hotel stay service, enabling The Westin to purchase carbon credits to offset the emissions for each night that the guest opts out of housekeeping services.
- We supported a campaign to promote internal awareness of climate change by creating an active “green champion” team of associates from all departments in the hotel.

After many months of investigating and exploring programmes worldwide, the Westin believed the carbon offset programme created by The CarbonNeutral Company would be the ideal partnership as hotel guest, associates and vendors could participate to reduce the carbon footprint associated with their stay at the hotel in a way that delivers substantial and measurable results.
